Ministerial Staff

The ministerial staff is called and anointed by the spirit of the Lord to preach the gospel, to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance and liberation to them that are bruised according to the Word in Luke 4:18.  The ministerial staff, at the request and/or approval of the pastor, will perform marriages and baptisms, and will bury the dead. Other duties of the staff include overseeing the implementation of church ministries as assigned by the pastor.   

Board of Stewards

Stewards should be laypersons of solid piety, who know and love the Word of God, the A.M.E. Church doctrine, and the Doctrine and Discipline of the A.M.E. Church.  They are responsible for the spiritual and temporal business of the church and should have been a member of the church for at least two years.

Stewards are appointed by the pastor of the church to serve an annual term of 12 months. They may be re-appointed by the pastor and a Steward is the highest office that a layperson can hold within the local church. 

 Stewardess Boards 1, 2, and 3

Stewardess Boards 1, 2 and 3 work under the auspices of the Board of Stewards and they are responsible for the implements and elements for Holy Communion and Holy Baptism.  (See the Book of Discipline for more details).

Board of Trustees

The Trustees shall manage all the temporal concerns of the church not otherwise provided for and shall be responsible for all church property.  

Trustees are elected by a majority vote and should be at least 18 years of age; they must be instructed and trained regarding the duties and responsibilities of Trustees.

Deaconess Board

This ministry is composed of women of good moral standing who have a special mandate in the A.M.E. Church. The duties of the Deaconesses are to:

  • encourage, foster, and improve the general interest of the church;

  • promote comfort and solicit the friendship of the general public;

  • cheer the fallen;

  • feed the hungry;

  • clothe the naked;

  • seek out the homeless;

  • encourage thrift; visit hospitals and prisons;

  • and save the lost.

Elsie T. Joseph Women’s Missionary Society

We are called to strength our faith and sent to continue the ministry of Jesus Christ by service and witness in the world.

As women called to discipleship to grow in knowledge and experience of God through Jesus Christ, committed to support the mission of the church, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are challenged to help one another engage in ministry and action, and grow and respond in faith to God’s redemptive plan for the church, the society and the world.

Young People and Children’s Division of the
Elsie T. Joseph Women’s Missionary Society

The purpose of this organization is to implement mission programs and activities in the local communities to fulfill the purpose of the organization, by providing training for later Christian service to the Women’s Missionary Society.  The young people should come together for Bible study, to perform service projects in the community, and for workshops on Christian social relations and family life dealing with topics of relevance to today’s young people.

Department of Evangelism

The mission of the Department of Evangelism is to deliver the message of Jesus Christ's liberating gospel.  To minister to the spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional and environmental needs of all communities.

Christian Development

Christian Development includes:

  • Bible Study

  • Prayer Meeting

  • New Members Class

  • Church School

  • Department of Christian Education

The purpose of the Christian Development ministry is to provide those necessary services that would grow men, women, boys and girls into mature Christians.

The Lay Organization

The purpose of the lay organization is to organize and train the laity of the A.M.E. Church so that each layperson may utilize his/her abilities and skills granted by God.  The lay organization assists with the improvement and extension of God’s kingdom, and creates happiness, peace, and harmony among its members. 

Liturgical Dance Ministries

The primary function of the Grant A.M.E. Liturgical Dance Ministry is to release the Glory of God in dance.  The Grant A.M.E. Liturgical Dancers ministers through dances that focus on praise and worship, deliverance, healing, salvation, warfare and edification.  We strive to  bring hope and joy to all.

Women in Ministry

The mission of Women in Ministry is to exhort, to know God more intimately and to experience the true power of salvation through Jesus Christ. The ultimate purpose of the WIM fellowship is to be empowered to seek and fulfill our true God given purpose in life.

Southerners Committee

A group of Christian believers of southern heritage, who come together to fellowship, celebrate and remember their southern roots.

Flower Club

The purpose of the flower club is to beautify the altar with fresh cut flowers every Sunday.  The flower club provides the church members and friends an opportunity to purchase a plant to honor the memory of a loved one, and to pay tribute to a family member or a friend.  These plants adorn the sanctuary during worship service and after service they are shared with sick and shut-in members.

Usher Boards

The Senior Usher Board –  meets, greets, seats, and assists members and visitors as they enter the sanctuary for and during worship service.

The Junior Usher Board – meets, greets, seats, and assists members and visitors as they enter the sanctuary for and during worship service on 3rd Sunday during Youth Worship Service.

Henrietta McCall Nurses Unit

The Henrietta McCall Nurses Unit is to improve the quality of life and health of the members of the Grant A. M. E. Church.

We are committed to:

  • Improving the health status of the members of the church through health promotion and preventative health services
     

  • Work collaboratively with other organizations of the church to provide spiritual and emotional support to members and their families at their time of need
     

Willing Workers

The Willing Workers are Christian men and women who take on major projects that enhance the beauty and upkeep of the church. 

The Singles Fellowship Ministry

Let your light so shine upon men so that they may see your good works.

Purpose

Unmarried servants of God who congregate, fellowship, spiritually support
and uplift one another in accordance to the teachings of Jesus Christ as written in his Holy Word.

Objectives

Seek daily support and strength from committed Christians;
 

  • To provide comfort and prayer to all those in need

  • To support the church as directed by the Pastor;

  • To offer workshops designed to the specific needs of single Christians (i.e., financial, parenting, health);

  • To offer social outings for enjoyment where single Christians can feel comfortable and safe.

The Daughters of Sarah

The Daughters of Sarah is a group of Christian women who come together monthly on a spiritual journey; they focus and concentrate on a closer walk with Jesus Christ.  Their purpose is to develop a community of Christian women who will listen, uplift, and empower themselves and other women in unity.

The Sons of Allen

The purpose of the Sons of Allen is to (1) encourage men to become involved in helping other men find Christ in their lives and (2) to provide spiritual growth in Christ Jesus for African American men as they establish and supervise the development of African American young men into Christian manhood.

The Young Adult Network (YAN)

The purpose and mission of the Young Adult Network is to seek God’s will and direction while providing support to one another, the church, and the community as they lead successful lives as young adults in Christ Jesus, our Lord.

Church Library

The Grant A.M.E. Church School Library was established for the purpose of providing our congregation with access to information.  Books for children and adults are in the genre of fiction, nonfiction, picture books, beginning readers, Christian fiction and religion.  We also furnish books on tape, videocassettes and games for children.

Healing Ministry

The healing ministry seeks to bring everyone into a greater wholeness in every area of their lives by knowing peace with God so that one can relate to Him intimately and experience the Father’s love and care.

The healing ministry believes in acting on God's provision for healing through prayer with Laying on of Hands and anointing.  The healing ministry encourages growth in peoples' personal relationship with Jesus Christ the Lord; affirms the body's natural power of healing; and supporting medical knowledge and skills to assist healing and relief of pain.

And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.

Community Outreach/Assisted Living Ministry

The Assisted Living Ministry believes that the church must go beyond the walls into the community to show Gods love by helping others.  Community Outreach endeavors includes gathering for prayer services and preparing and serving Sunday morning breakfast to the residents living in the 25 Ruggles Street Assisted Living Facility.

And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.
